Please join us October 15, 2023, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm Pacific time for the San Diego Friendship Seminar. This event will be held at Jiai Aikido, 980 Buenos Avenue #1C, San Diego, CA.
For the future development of Aikido, it's important to strengthen our community and build relationships between dojo and people that transcend organizational boundaries.
With this in mind we are holding a Friendship Seminar, with the goal being to bring our community together for a day of training followed by social time (and food and beverage!).
(It’s our intention to have a series of seminars such as this, in various locations, and we hope people will support this endeavor for the future growth of Aikido.)

The schedule for the day will be:
9:00 am-12:15 pm Training (each instructor will teach a 45-minute class)
Lunch Break
1:30-3:00 pm Training (Round Robin style, co-taught by all instructors)

Instructors
Dave Goldberg Sensei, 6 Dan, Aikido of San Diego, Evolutionary Aikido Community
Dave Goldberg Sensei is the founder and chief instructor of Aikido of San Diego. He began Aikido in 1986 as a dabbler in the art. A year later he was practicing regularly, and then in 1990 he moved to Japan for 3½ years to train under some of Morihei Ueshiba's most prolific disciples. He has a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Teaching, and worked on academic faculties in the US and Japan for nine years. He also spent several years studying/practicing somatic psychology and bodywork, and is a Body Mind College graduate. In 1998, he started teaching Aikido at UCSD. He did it for 10 years, even after establishing his first Mission Valley dojo in 2000. He also plays in the world of comedy, and graduated from Finest City Improv's training program. He's a nature lover, and finds inspiration and delight in life's big questions.
Tom Liu Sensei, 4 Dan, California Aikido Association
Tom Liu Sensei began his Aikido training in the early 1990s under Frank Doran Shihan at the Aikido West dojo and the Stanford Aikido Club. He received the rank of Yondan (4th Dan) from Doran Shihan under California Aikido Association in 2016. Liu Sensei also practices Tai Chi, the Alexander Technique, and meditation and has been a regular Instructor at Jiai Aikido for several years. His primary interests are the exploration of the principles of mind-body integration and the development of integrated and relaxed power.
Cat Strada Sensei, 4 Dan, Jiai Aikido, Aikido Shimbokukai
Cat Strada Sensei started Aikido in 2007 under Jeff Sodeman Sensei, a student of Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan, at Jiai Aikido Dojo in San Diego where she has been Dojo Cho since 2011. She is a member of Aikido Shimbokukai, and holds the title of Shidoin since 2022. Strada Sensei started training Systema in 2005 under Certified Instructor Sodeman, and currently runs the San Diego Systema training and study group. She has traveled extensively in her aikido career including to the Aikido & Systema Bridge Seminar in Moscow, Russia.
Lisa Tomoleoni Shihan, 6 Dan, Abiding Spirit Aikikai, Aikido Shimbokukai
Lisa Tomoleoni Shihan holds the rank of 6 dan, received from Moriteru Ueshiba, Aikido Doshu. She spent over 14 years in Japan training at the Aikido World Headquarters and teaching Aikido professionally at a dojo in Tokyo. Tomoleoni Sensei is Director of the Aikido Shimbokukai, an organization Officially Recognized by the Aikikai Foundation and Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. She also has yudansha ranking in Judo and Iaido and is a member of the Kenshukan Dojo in Tokyo. Tomoleoni Shihan is a co-author of the book "Along the Way", a collection of writings about training.
